Endau is between Nairobi and Mombasa. It is a very hot dry area and the soil is very poor so farming is difficult, though it is good for goats!
Pamoja supports a church planter and evangelist, Shadrack. Shadrack lives a 1.5 hour walk away from his parish so Pamoja has provided a bicycle for him. Pamoja has bought Bibles and hymn books for the congregation.
A few years ago, Shadrack identified the need for a clinic in the area, so in 2008 Pamoja bought land to build a suitable facility. The people suffer from various sicknesses and the nearest alternative clinic is 35 kilometers away. This clinic was completed in 2009, and with Stephen, a full-time nurse supported by Pamoja, is now treating people from a wide area. To give an idea of how the clinic is being used, here is a short extract from the detailed report Stephen sends to Pamoja trustees on a regular basis.
"The total number of patients seen from 20th April to 24th May is eighty-six. Some of the conditions treated include: Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), Malaria, Chicken pox, Epilepsy Urinary/sexually Transmitted infections, soft Tissue injuries, repairing deep cuts, Pneumonia, upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, Asthma, 1 mother delivered a baby girl successfully. Now a good number of these patients have been walking long distances (some more than 40km spending their nights at good Samaritan homes) and other being brought by motor-bikes."
Stephen is a young man who comes from the local area, so he understands the ways of the people and the local language. He is also a committed Christian who is keen that all he does should be a testimony to The Lord. Living in Endau is not easy, and he deserves our support and prayers. The current cost of running the clinic is around £400/month: please click on the 'You can be involved - Donate Now' button if you would like to make a regular donation to this much needed work.
